What is Robenacoxib?

Robenacoxib (trade name: Onsior) is an aromatic amino acid that is 2-amino-5-ethylphenylacetic acid in which one of the amino hydrogens is replaced by a 2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl group. A selective cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitor that is used in veterinary medicine for the relief of pain and inflammation in cats and dogs. It has a role as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, a non-narcotic analgesic and a cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitor. It is an aromatic amino acid, a monocarboxylic acid, an organofluorine compound, a secondary amino compound and a member of phenylacetic acids.

Mechanism of Action:

Robenacoxib is an NSAID. Like other drugs in this class, robenacoxib has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins. The enzyme inhibited by NSAID is the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme.

Drug Indication:

Tablets for cats: treatment of acute pain and inflammation associated with musculo-skeletal disorders in cats, reduction of moderate pain and inflammation associated with orthopaedic surgery in cats.Tablets for dogs: treatment of pain and inflammation associated with chronic osteoarthritis in dogs.Solution for injection for cats and dogs: treatment of pain and inflammation associated with orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery in dogs and soft tissue surgery in cats, treatment of pain and inflammation associated with orthopaedic surgery in cats (including repeated post surgery indication).

Robenacoxib Side effects:

● vomiting
● change in bowel movements such as diarrhea or change in stool color
● change in drinking or urination
● change in behavior, such as depression or restlessness

Storage and Warnings:

Robenacoxib tablets should be stored in a childproof container in a cool, dry place at room temperature away from heat and direct sunlight.
Keep this and all medications out of the reach of children and pets.
People should not take Robenacoxib tablets. Keep Robenacoxib tablets and all medication out of reach of children. Call your physician immediately if you accidentally take Robenacoxib tablets.
