What is Idarubicin HCl?

Idarubicin Hydrochloride is the hydrochloride salt of the anthracycline antineoplastic antibiotic idarubicin. Idarubicin intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, thereby inhibiting DNA replication and ultimately, interfering with RNA and protein synthesis.

Idarubicin is in a class of medications called anthracyclines. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells in your body.

What is Idarubicin HCl used for?

Idarubicin is a cancer medicine that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. Idarubicin is used to treat acute myeloid leukemia (AML), a type of blood cancer. Idarubicin may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
